Case Study.19_Multi-Material Research [SDSS+SS316L]

"Multi-Material (SDSS + SS316L)" SDSS(Supper Duplex Stainless Steel) is a material that has both austenite and ferrite phases. It has excellent machinability/excellent mechanical properties/excellent corrosion resistance/high low-temperature impact toughness. In this case study, multi-material samples of SS316L and SDSS were manufactured by MX-Fab, the possibility of multi-material was evaluated by mechanical property evaluation/microstructure analysis/bonding interface analysis and selecting the optimum heat treatment for securing ferrite contents within the range. Finally, SDSS(inner) + SS316L(Outer) multi-material valve production and accepted the pressure test twice the operating pressure without any problem.

Case Study.18_MMC Research [Al+Al2O3]

“DED system MX-Lab that makes new alloys MMCs” This Metal Matrix Composites(MMC) demo shows how easy it is to research new material with the MX-Lab machine. In this demo, we stated Al and Al2O3 mixing the powder in 9:1, 8:2, 7:3, 5:5 ratio. After deposit, the specimens of MMC(Metal Matrix Composites) were analyzed by SEM & EDS and Wear Test. As a result of the wear test, it was confirmed that the amount of wear was significantly improved compared to the existing pure Al and Al-based alloys. Start making your own alloys with InssTek's MX-Lab!

Case Study.17_Multi-Material Research[AlBronze+IN718]

“Multi-Material (Al Bronze + IN718) test with MX-Lab” In this case study, a multi-material sample of Ni-based alloy and Copper-based alloy was manufactured by 3D printing (MX-Lab), and mechanical properties were tested to confirm the possibility of using multi-material of both materials. Al Bronze + IN718 multi-material specimens could be easily manufactured using the MX-Lab. Ni-based alloy is widely used in extreme environments such as aerospace, power generation, and the oil & gas industry. However, the restricted thermal conductivity constrains the application of Ni-based alloys in high heat flux cases. The joining of materials with high thermal conductivity such as copper alloy to Ni-based alloys can improve upon this limitation to adapt for temperature-sensitive requirements. The specimens were subjected to a tensile test according to ASTM E8 after machining. As a result of the tensile test for specimens, no fracture occurred at the bonding interface. The fracture was occurred in the Al Bronze part because of the lower tensile strength of Al Bronze than IN718.

Case Study.16_FGM Research [Stellite6+SS316L]

Material research report with MX-Lab(CVM powder feeding system) The component analysis of five Stellite6 + SS316L FGM(Functionally Graded Material) samples stacked at once shows a similar compositional distribution. Through this test, we confirmed that the feeder of MX-Lab can supply and control powder consistently. By producing FGM through the CVM powder feeding system of MX-Lab, samples of various compositions can be simultaneously manufactured, which can reduce the opportunity cost by reducing alloy design and verification time. In addition to FGMs(Functionally Graded Materials) methodologies, it is possible to implement other multi-material composition methods such as MMCs (Metal Matrix Composites), and HEAs(High Entropy Alloys).

Case Study.12_FGM Research [Albronze + SUS316L]

See the additional new powerful features of MX-Lab. These new functions will help your material research to be easier and faster. ✔Auto Z Automatically adjusts the distance between the sample and nozzle to 9 mm in real time during deposition. Keeps the working distance constant for constant Bead growth. ✔Laser Power Control Function Sets the appropriate laser power for the material at the desired location based on the NC-Code when producing a multi material sample. Try researching new materials more easily and quickly with the new MX-Lab. This FGM demo shows how easy it is to study new materials with the MX-Lab equipment. In this demonstration, we started with a SUS316L base and gradually deposited the material to change to Albronze. After deposition, the sample was analyzed with SEM & EDS and have confirmed that the composition of the material gradually changed.
