Functionally Graded Materials (FGMs) are materials in which the composition and properties are gradually varied within a single component, combining the advantages of different materials into one structure.
InssTek’s DED technology enables the fabrication of functionally graded materials through precise multi-material control, opening new possibilities for material design that are difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods.
Why Functionally Graded Materials?
Even within a single component, different regions may require different properties. FGMs optimize overall component performance by gradually varying the material composition to integrate properties such as heat resistance, toughness, and wear resistance within a single component.
